The Challenge and The Solution
An old-school, conventional HVAC system runs on a simple formula—go full power until it reaches the temperature requested by the thermostat, and then turn on and off again to maintain that temperature. We’ve all had the experience of a frigid New Hampshire winter day and hearing the heat start up and then stop again repeatedly—sometimes within the same hour. Each time the system turns on its noisy outdoor unit, it uses more energy than it does during regular operation.
Ductless systems can’t make our winters any milder, but they can ensure that hot air (or cold air on a summer day) is delivered much more efficiently. That starts with the INVERTER.
Think of the INVERTER like your own heart—which is appropriate because the INVERTER really is the heart of the ductless HVAC unit. Your own heart gradually increases its rate to meet your needs of the moment (easing into the day after waking up, exercising, etc.) It doesn’t dramatically shut down and crank back up. A healthy heart works silently, calmly adjusting itself to your needs at a particular moment.
So too, does the INVERTER. It automatically adjusts conditioning when its temperature sensors detect even subtle changes. You don’t have to think about it, and the system is so quiet you won’t hear it either. Rooms are cooled and heated faster and more efficiently. The INVERTER regulates energy consumption so that the system only uses the precise amount of energy needed to keep each room at the temperature you choose.
This is greener and more sustainable than running at full power like conventional systems and can reduce energy consumption by up to 40 percent.

How Ductless Systems Work
The ductless system allows you, as the property owner, to target air delivery to the rooms and spaces where it’s needed most. A conventional HVAC just heats or cools the entire home or building.
But most homes have some rooms that are used more than others. The home office where we may work remotely. The living room and den area where people gather. These are the rooms you may want to keep at maximum comfort. The ductless system allows you to target them.
The essential components of a zoned air conditioning and heating system are the outdoor unit, the indoor unit, and the smart comfort controls. The system operates by transferring heat to and from an outdoor unit to one or more indoor units. The units are connected by pipes containing refrigerant, a substance that absorbs heat.
Ductless systems come in two different types:
- Single-Zone System: This is ideal if you only need cooling and heating in a single space.
- Multi-Zone Systems: These are designed for cooling and heating multiple spaces.
Within these two options is an array of cutting-edge technologies, which may or may not be included with different models. The trained professionals at The Comfort Zone will be sure to walk through all of this with you.
